Connect your intercom
Once your subscription is active, we set up your household's BuzzKey number. When it's ready, the app opens the Connect your intercom guide with the number and a button to copy it. You can open the guide again any time from Settings → Building Information → Connect your intercom.
- Give this number to your building or property manager for your unit.
- Ask them to program your unit's intercom to call this number when a visitor selects your unit.
- Test it with a real buzz: have someone at the entrance call your unit and confirm BuzzKey rings.
Not sure what to write? There's a message for your property manager on our home page that you can copy.
"Your BuzzKey number may be long distance"
We look for a number in your building's area code first, then in your province or state. If we couldn't find one in your area code, the guide shows this warning. Ask your building to confirm the intercom can dial the number before you rely on it.
The number is still activating
The app keeps checking while it's open, and the guide appears as soon as the number is ready. If the app says activation needs attention, contact support.
Your door key
When you tap TAP TO UNLOCK during a call, BuzzKey sends your household's door key to the intercom — the same as pressing that key on a phone keypad. The key is 9 unless you set a different one during setup.
- If the door doesn't open, ask your building which key releases the door.
- To change it, a household admin goes to Settings → Building Information → Edit Building Info. The key can be up to four characters: the digits 0–9, * and #.
- Other members of the household can see the key, but only an admin can change it.
If your phone doesn't ring
Open Settings → Call readiness. It checks the permissions BuzzKey needs and takes you to the right place in your phone's settings for anything that's off.
- Notifications — so BuzzKey can alert you when someone buzzes.
- Microphone — so you can talk to the visitor when you answer.
- Full-screen call alerts (Android) — so the call shows over the lock screen.
- Battery optimization (Android) — an exemption helps calls arrive while BuzzKey is closed.
If everything is ready and calls still don't arrive, buzz your unit from the entrance to check the building has your BuzzKey number, then contact support.
During a call
- Answer to talk to your visitor, or Decline to dismiss the call.
- TAP TO UNLOCK opens the door. You don't have to answer first.
- Calls start on the earpiece. Once you've answered, tap Speaker to switch to the loudspeaker and back.
App lock
In Settings → Security & Privacy you can protect BuzzKey with a PIN or your phone's Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint. Lock Grace Period controls how soon the app locks after you leave it.
Incoming calls always show over the app lock, so you never miss the door. That means whoever is holding your phone when it rings can answer and open the door. If your phone goes missing, change your password — that signs out every device on the account — and change any access codes you're worried about.
Replay the app tour
Go to Settings → Replay App Tour. It walks through calls and the door key, auto-unlock, shared codes, activity history, call readiness, building information and the app lock.
Your subscription
- Subscriptions are managed by the store you bought from: App Store subscriptions or Google Play subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next renewal.
- Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel a subscription.
- If a subscription lapses, you have 5 days to restore it before your BuzzKey number is released. A released number can't be recovered, so subscribing again later means a new number for your building.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.
